Mini Holidays

Mini Holidays are important too. Especially ones that make spring a strong contender for “second best season ever”. Pi Day is a custom made holiday for homeschool moms. It’s an excuse to change up math for the day, watch fun youtube videos and eat pie. St. Patrick’s day is similar: tons of themed crafting ideas to do for school, an excuse to watch more fun videos and eat all the good foods…looking at you Lucky Charms, soda bread, and corned beef.

Pi Day was also Physical Therapy for Layna. She’s been working hard to strengthen her leg muscles so that her knee is more stable. Meesh, her therapist, is one of my favorite people Layna’s ever had. Corra came too and did her Pi Day school activities because Neil was in San Francisco. All my kids got a personal pie with lunch and chicken pot pies for dinner. Neil got pie too…don’t worry. Grammarly is a geeky enough company to exploit the excuse for pie in the office cafe.

I appreciate so much that the weeds around our town (daffodils) are color coordinated with St. Patrick’s Day. I’m working on wasting less time and drawing more. I have a new bullet journal that I’ll start using in August but in the mean time I’m trying to fill it with art. The idea being that I’ll randomly stumble upon past drawings as I fill the pages with writing. Weeds are inspiring sometimes. St. Patrick’s Day was on a Sunday so we did our fun school stuff on Friday. Sorting and graphing Lucky Charms (which we had for breakfast day of) is classic. Even Tatanka appreciates our daffodils.
Corra loved sorting and graphing so much she did it with her breakfast. Naomi enjoyed breakfast before her first migraine began. Just like when I’ve had them, hers started with weird auras in her vision. Hers, however, came with nausea and she was so sick until evening that she and Neil stayed home from church. She was recovered enough to eat a bit of dinner and pavlova.
There is nothing Irish about pavlova, but making it green and topping it with bright yellow lemon curd and whipped cream made it totally cannon.
