Duke Gardens and 17 years

What a month…can you believe April is over? We had testing, we had spring break, we had Easter and an Ohio trip. Well, yesterday we had a field trip. I was, in fact, aware that April would be nuts and half the days not available for normal school. So for science we did something near and dear to all our hearts: botany. Luckily we couldn’t have timed it better to learn about monocots and dicots, angiosperms and gymnosperms. And because our state is a fabulous one with glorious flora and universities to fund the exhibition of said flora…we headed to the Gardens at Duke University.

The girls and I had a delightful time exploring the paths and ponds, and the flowers…oh my the flowers. They had a scavenger hunt to complete and found all 15 things on their list. A picnic lunch in the car when we were done made the day absolutely perfect.

Have I mentioned how much I love living in a place where things grow?

Duke Gardens

I would be remiss in not acknowledging that this handsome guy (yes, handsome even with a bee-stung swollen shut eye) and I celebrated 17 years of marriage last Saturday. We made it to the Temple in the morning and it was on our way home we heard that Corra had thrown up 5 times…the plague had arrived. Needless to say, the rest of our anniversary wasn’t very glamorous. Funny thing, though. We’ve never needed glamorous. We’ve never needed fancy, elaborate, or novel. For the last almost 18 years we’ve only needed each other.
