Flashback to the summer when I was blocking out our school year. I usually plan out the books I’ll read to my girls (one each month) and the field trips (again, one each month). Sometimes life happens and we don’t make the field trips or they want me to read a different book. Sometimes things go exactly according to plan. Got it? Deep and shocking revelations about life. Now move forward to mid-October and we suddenly found ourselves with two additional field trips, so three total, in two weeks. Party! So tres. Yesterday a tropical storm canceled what would have been #3. Alas, our trip to the Tiger Rescue (the one I actually planned) will need to be rescheduled. Luckily, two moms from our home school co-op rustled up some additional fun.

First up was a presentation from a guy who has a bird of prey facility just up the road from our house. Right away I was thrilled to be going to a thing less than an hour away. We drive a lot…not that I’m complaining, the fall colors have been breathtaking lately and I’m all about driving through them all. Chip is the owner and he was absolutely hilarious. The kids adored him and they even got to pet an owl. We love the Renaissance Faire presentation but it has nothing on this. After was a picnic lunch and romping with friends.

Next was a brand new art adventure. There are cute little shops all over where you can go and paint pieces of pottery. Then the shop fires them in a kiln and you can go pick them up. Naomi was super sad to not be able to go, so I have a feeling that we will be going back. Layna is working on developing her friendship making skills and there is a girl named Mia we are hoping to become better fiends with. All three of us had a lot of fun. We won’t have the finished pieces back for a while (and they may or may not be Christmas presents. We don’t ask questions at Christmas!) so no pictures of their projects, but there will be lots of pictures when we go back.
