It’s a foregone conclusion that you will be a Lego family if your oldest child loves Legos. They will pass that love and interest on to every subsequent child and heaven help you if any of those Lego fans is a control freak. Having kids who are ok with swapping out colors or (gasp) entire pieces when they rebuild sets is a gift from the Almighty who did not want to push the limits of my sanity. I can vacuum with impunity.
We truly don’t mind Legos and recognize the creative value they have for our kids. It makes me happy that they are so ecstatic about new sets. People complain about the cost, but I figure there are worse things for them to want to spend their money on. A friend told me about an Art installation that was currently in Raleigh and once I visited the website I knew we were going. I’m trying to train my kids to appreciate art, to love art galleries and to know how to behave in said galleries and museums. Not going to lie…having the medium be exclusively Legos helped with capturing their interest and piquing their curiosity. We also invited Garyn’s Girlfriend who is every bit as geeky as we are…She loved the exhibit as much as we did.
Bill Watterson was brilliant and my favorite thing he had Calvin say was, “There is treasure everywhere!” It’s good to remember that there is also Art everywhere.
