This was Layna’s first year of our church’s Girl’s Camp. Naomi is an old pro and I got to tag along as a leader for our girls and be Layna’s buddy. Layna isn’t quite to the level of camping on her own, and that’s ok. There were a lot of interesting emotions that I got to explore in between the giant bubble station, swimming in the lake, GAGA ball, and all the ranged weapon shooting. We went to bed late, woke up early, and had snow cones. The food was awesome and the weather was hot, but beautiful. By the time Neil and Corra came up for our last night and Beach Day Finale I was definitely needing to be off mom-duty 24/7 and ready to sleep in my own bed. Garyn and Kathrine just “happened” to plan a beach date on the exact same day and at the exact same beach so we snuck in a family beach trip when no one was looking.
Even though I was so done by that last sandy day, it was an amazing experience for my older girls and I am grateful I was able to help facilitate it. I’ll be figuring out more of those complicated emotions being Layna’s buddy for the next 6 summers of camp. Corra will join us the year after next and we will have at least 3 years of all of us women folk girl’s camping together. I’ll take advantage of every chance to rest up in between.
