Corra: double digits

Corra: double digits

2023-08-19

This shnookums has arrived. Despite the agony of a seemingly never-ending wait, she finally made it to double digits. Ten Years Old! And, as has been discussed, that also means one can have their very own mp3 player and dye their hair. This was truly a momentous year.
I’ve been going through and painstakingly turning my old blog into photo books that I’m ordering volume by volume as I finish them. It’s quite a process but the kids love reading all about themselves and my thoughts on them and our life through the years. The book I’m currently working on (October 2013-October 2014) will end with this baby and one of my favorite Halloween costumes we’ve ever done. It ranks right there under her and Layna as lawn gnomes. But for Corra’s second Halloween she was a sheep for Layna’s Little Bo Peep. Genius.
My Corra is slowly transitioning into being older but taking things at her own pace. Having two sophisticated (using the word very loosely) older siblings is helping her grow up, but having Layna for a buddy and constant companion is helping to make sure that process doesn’t happen too fast. Again I say, Genius. The party was crazy and water filled, the cake was as perfectly bizarre as every other cake she’s chosen, and she now has red hair. Life is good as a 10 year old.

She received all sorts of cool things from Lego sets to an epic sisters movie marathon sleep over (happened last night, and unlimited Rolos did not disappoint). The mp3 player has not lost its novelty quite yet and she said that overall it was a good birthday.
Oh this girl. I’ve realized over the last few years, that she, more than any of the others, is happiest and most at home in her body, doing physical things. At the beginning of August she started taking classes in aerial silk acrobatics and is a natural. She loves everything about it. Her karate passion is still going strong and purple belt is on the horizon. I love that she is so active and strong and graceful…aaannndd I have concerns for when she goes to middle school and has to sit. For long stretches on time. With her shoes on. Quietly. It might kill her. Sigh. Or make her stronger, right? The great thing about Corra is everything about her is out there all the time…no secrets, no surprises. Because she is all about diving into the Why of everything I’m confident that we’ll be able to figure it all out.
She is getting bigger, but still wants me to sing to her at night and still wants me to read to her and hug her. Double digits is doable.
