Corra has excellent taste in flowers. These were my birthday present from her. Our August birthdays happened in the midst of back to school adjusting. My new 11 year old was a champ when her birthday happened to coincide with the first day of school. Before that, though, we did the usual Sunday birthday dinner and cake. The cake had to happen so she could take the tail with her in her lunch. Tail? Oh yes. She requested a “Corgi Butt” cake. It actually is a real thing. Seriously..look it up. I’m not sure where the idea came from but once it struck there was absolutely no going back. Inside was red velvet cake and peanut butter cake. Naomi and Layna took the paws in their lunches. Her actual present from us was a quad pod…A huge frame that allows her to practice silks at home. And I just realized this very minute I have zero pictures of her doing stuff on it. Sigh. But there are pictures of the great presents from her siblings. Especially the squishmallow version of Cosmo Cougar, BYU’s mascot from Garyn.

On my birthday Neil and I hit 20 years of being together. Long story but it was decided by knowledgeable third parties that we started dating on my birthday 2004. That milestone was way more interesting than me finally turning 39. I’ve felt like I was 39 for the last 8 months so it was mostly just a relief to have it be official. My birthday dessert was an epic but simple peach cobbler/dump cake. I tested the recipe up at girls camp and Naomi declared it the “best dessert she’s ever had”. So we had to see if I could do it again. Delicious. Lunch with my dad earlier in the week was great and he gave me a gift certificate to a bee keeping store I’ve never been to! I can’t wait to go and wander around.
Neil and I did go out to dinner which is always delightful, but the highlight was playing a 2 player round of our new board game. Hanging out with my best friend is hands down my favorite way to spend a birthday.
