I’m still bitter. No one should ever be allowed to paint baseboards black. It’s a crime against humanity and there should be a law. Sure it looked snazzy when that room was an unapologetic boy room blending with the crazy vibrant royal blue. However. Now that room belongs to a 15 year old girl who wanted baby pink and tranquil. Black baseboards are many things but tranquil is not one of them.
This summer is winding to a close and I’m happy to report my girls’ rooms are mostly finished. 97% done to be precise. When Naomi took over Garyn’s room she had a say in a lot of things. One thing she didn’t get a choice on was the built in floor to ceiling bookshelf. She didn’t mind becoming the family librarian. She chose paint color and ivy/fairy light wall decor as well as white board paint she can draw on.
The little girls needed a brighter more energetic color and thank the high heavens they agreed on all the colors. They got paint and on the drive home from Utah Neil and I watched Youtube to figure out how to transform and deconstruct her room-in-a-bed. It was also a known thing that when painting was finished new carpet would happen. There was a lot of discussion around those colors, I can tell you. Luckily, now that it’s in and we are committed to it for the next 20 years, everyone is content. Final touch for the Corra…a new desk we found at IKEA. [chef’s kiss]

The shelves. I have to say a quick word about the shelves. First, it’s very sexy that my husband can build stuff and is confident in his ability to tackle new projects using tools he’s never used before. Second, it is very cool having a woodworking friend with a garage set up for managing large pieces of wood. Lastly, we are so happy with how it all turned out and now that it’s over we can say all the hassle was absolutely worth it.
