IKEA

Was there ever such a polarizing and bizarre cultural phenomenon? I mean there are TWO whole Bluey episodes covering different aspects of the IKEA experience. If that doesn’t scream cultural zeitgeist I don’t know what does.
I’m kind of kidding. I love IKEA and it ranks right up there with Snow as a nostalgia doused experienced that isn’t ruined by over exposure. It’s almost a three hour drive so we never go, unless it’s going to be a full day event.
I knew we needed just such an event, my girls and I. On a lovely day right before school started we drove out to Charlotte and spent the day at IKEA. The cafe made it even more convenient and fancy.

Every chair was sat upon. Every bed, laid on. If you’ve never been…the showroom level of IKEA is just a series of mini houses all set up with kitchens, bedrooms, and living spaces all set up to show what the furniture would actually look like. For us it means “playing house” but on a real scale. It was so fun and Naomi has 137 more ideas for what her future house will look like. Lunch was delicious and [gasp!] I said they could pick out a dessert. Corra was on a hunt for a desk for her room and we brought home a winner. Then, the best part, she got to build it almost all by herself.
