Back in August my girls and I drove out to IKEA. Three hours each way is lots of good thinking time and I realized on the drive we could/should update their bathroom. I was thinking a cool accent wall in some dark blue to keep with the existing color scheme. My girls said, “No! Orange and Pink!”. What. Even. I’ve never decorated with warm colors, let alone pink or orange. But I didn’t say anything really…I just let the idea slosh around in my head for a while. By the time we got there I was 100% on board. We got some cute warm color accessories, decided on a paint color for the accent wall and when we got home I went to work.
The “Before” pictures actually have the new IKEA bath mats because I’m awful at remembering to take pictures before I just dive into the project. The old fixture was attrocious so I knew that was being kicked to the dump pile. The new curtain was a suprise for the girls and they loved it. The art wall in this post’s cover image is what is across from the sink.
Overall all the women of the house are pleased and the man is characteristically just happy that his women are happy.
Well, I thought, if I am allowed to decorate with warm colors…why couldn’t I do something crazy like paint my bathroom yellow!? The answer is…I totally could. But full disclosure! The above pictures are a lie. The walls (that still exist) are that yellow. The light fixture is brand new an still there. However, as home improvement television has taught us, projects have a pesky way of expanding.
We don’t actually have a shower or tub and the vanity has been replaced with a new, amazing one and a huge gaping hole in the wall. Not so much a hole as an entire panel of dry wall is gone. The mirror is leaning up against the wall around the corner and the floor has been partially tiled. The Plan is this: tile the whole shower alcove and install a steam generator and framed glass door to make an actual steam shower. Re-finish the wall after the inspectors say we are allowed to and then finish decorating and putting it all back together again. The goal is a finish date of Thanksgiving weekend so we don’t have 6 people trying to share one shower. Fingers and Toes crossed and recrossed.
