Drawing Challenge

The above image has nothing to do with this post and everything to do with the random hilarity that happens regularly at our house.

Neil’s first trip of the year was a week in San Francisco. The few days before he left I was having a hard time with life and really trying to find ways to get into a better place mentally. I had heard once “get out of your head and into your hands”, and it really stuck with me. So I had the idea to spend more time drawing and less time doom scrolling while he was away. However, while I’m a very good artist, I’m sometimes very bad at getting out of creative ruts. Wasting all my drawing time every day figuring out what to draw would be sub-optimal, so I asked Neil to give me a new drawing prompt everyday.
He texted me a single word and I got to do whatever came to mind. It was so helpful and I enjoyed it so much that I asked him to do it again when he was in Berlin two weeks ago. Now, it is fairly intense to do it every day so I’m thinking it will be a “when he’s traveling” kind of a thing. I thought I’d share a few of the things I came up with during the two challenges.
