Ok. You know the drill. We’ve been planning this birthday since the day after she turned 14. 15 is now her favorite/lucky number. She has her 16th birthday in the works and is being a good sport about my refusal to start thinking about it until after Christmas. Some things about this baby never change. And I’m glad. She still loves to color and listen to her music in her headphones a little too loud. Her height may have maxed out at 4’8”. Some things have changed, though. She can read the scriptures about 75% independently. She talks and way more people can understand her. School is going really well and she is thriving with our part day routine. Early morning Seminary is her favorite time of the day.
This year’s festivities were very simple: out to dinner on her actual birthday, Fancy Dinner/Cake/Presents on the Sunday after.
So this cake. New cake recipe which came out way thinner than I expected. I still tried to cut it into two layers and it fell apart. Neil and I made an emergency trip to Walmart for a generic sheet cake and I performed surgery. It was touch and go but in the end we pulled through. She was pleased and it tasted good so all in all I declared victory.
As we sit here watching Frozen (Layna’s choice…”It’s forever we seen it. Forever!” she said.) I can’t imagine life without her smile and feistyness. Another year logged with her keeping us learning and growing and laughing and sighing in exasperation. I’m just happy to be her mom along for the ride, and Neil is super happy to be her outing buddy and CPAP mentor.
