End of School 26

That’s all folks! This school year is a wrap! In residence we now have an 8th grader, a junior and a senior. Summer break has officially begun! Aaaannnddd we are kicking it off with chilly temperatures and lots of rain. Meh. What can you do.
Before we launch into glorious sun-fueled semi-anarchy (staying up until 9 pm is crazy town, I tell you)…a brief school recap of some of the fun things they all got up to.

We continued to have fun cooking classes, Layna and I. Next year is seeing quite a big shake up of her classroom structure and dynamics so I have no idea what to expect really. It’s unlikely I’ll keep being invited to cook with the kids, but who knows? We will sort it out next year.

The charter school our kids go to is a project based learning school. So every other quarter the kids work really hard for a massive night when all the families can tour the school and see what everyone has been up to. I love these nights so much and we have a great time celebrating what they’ve been working on.

The girls keep going to church activity nights every Wednesday and a few weeks ago they got to go roller skating at an actual rink. I grew up skating at rinks and rollerblading so I do have to say that it is immensely gratifying to literally skate circles around almost everyone there. Layn had a wonderful time staying home with her dad.

Layna got to play with wome other kids from her school in a Special Olympics kickball tournament. She had so much fun and is still working on the concept that getting out means you stop running the bases. We’ll get there. Maybe.

Corra volunteered to switch her elective to a new 7th grade choir class and loved it.

Lots of library days. I love that they replaced the wall of iPads with magnatiles. Brilliant move.

More awards…Soccer recognition. Then Corra got the top award for “Integrity” and “Math” out of the whole 7th grade. Naomi was recognized for A-B honor roll. Naomi had a rough time because she missed straight A’s by one quarter having a B+. Her best friend also swept awards and got 7…Naomi is every bit as good at all of the things but she doesn’t kill herself like Abby does. It was still kind of rough to not be recognized for her awesomeness at all. She was a champ though, and genuinely happy for Abby.

Summer is bringing even more library days and temple trips. Naomi will be working at the zoo 3 days a week and my other girls have random stuff happening. I’m completely unprepared for the sheer amount of time I will need to help them fill…so I’m hanging lots of hope on the pool we just set up. Now it just needs to fill and heat before we can milk it for all it’s worth.
